High pressure ionization chamber (HPIC) is a radiation detector used for measuring and detecting ionizing radiation. It is an inflatable detector that operates under high pressure, typically within a range of several atmospheres, designed to detect various types of radiation, including α、β and γ Radiation. HPIC consists of a cylindrical metal chamber filled with high-pressure gases such as argon, neon, or helium. When ionizing radiation enters the ionization chamber, it ionizes gas molecules, forming a cluster of electrons and positively charged ions. Electrons are attracted to the positively charged anode located at the center of the chamber, while positively charged ions are attracted to the negatively charged cathode on the outer wall of the chamber. The generated current is proportional to the amount of ionizing radiation entering the ionization chamber. HPIC is typically used for applications that require high sensitivity to low radiation levels, such as nuclear power plants, medical facilities, and environmental monitoring. They are also used in research applications, such as particle physics experiments, where they can be used to detect and measure the energy of charged particles.
